Take a time trip along the Odense Fjord! Once upon a time, it was the waves that prevailed along the coast of Odense Fjord. The locals lived in rural towns and farms on small islands or close to the coast, and they were plagued by malaria and frequent floods. In the 19th century, the fight against water masses was taken up. With shovels and buckets they built dykes, pumped the water away and conquered lands from the fjord. Funen grew, while Odense Fjord became smaller.
Hear the stories of the brave men and women who fought against the forces of nature to contain the lands. Hear about the enormous forces that could destroy the levees in a storm, and about the stubbornness and ingenuity needed to overcome the obstacles.
- We meet at the estate Hofmansgave, which was once located on an island, but today is on solid land thanks to embankments
- From here we embark on an approximately 2.5 hour hike along the dykes, stopping along the way to hear stories and enjoy the beautiful view of the fjord.
- Our tour guide Bjarne Kim Pedersen lives in the local area and has a deep knowledge of the history of the containment of Odense Fjord - and he knows all the good stories.

- The hike is on uneven terrain. Bring comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather.
